Make an easy three ingredient ice cream scented bubble recipe for one of the best homemade bubble recipes ever! It smells absolutely incredible and is a super affordable bubble recipe with ingredients from your kitchen.
We love bubbles, and we love yummy scents, especially ice cream. Much to my excitement, I found out that the two could be combined. I first saw the idea from a set of ice cream bubbles that I purchased at the dollar store. Aren’t they the best bubble holders ever? Well, as you may know, bubbles don’t last long! They are either really popular or get spilled. Spills happen all the time around here, so that’s just part of life with little ones. To help our high demand for these ice cream bubbles, I decided to make our own. Our homemade ice cream scented bubble recipe smells much better than the ones from the store too!
We made chocolate, peppermint, and vanilla, and all of the ingredients are household supplies. It’s a super easy process, and it’s so nice to have easy refills just sitting around or ready to mix together.
Let’s cut to the chase! Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
1 cup or 8 oz. of water, lukewarm to cool
1/2 cup or 4 oz. of Softsoap (other soaps can be substituted but the amount will probably change)
*1/8 to 1/4 tsp of flavoring (vanilla extract, cocoa powder, peppermint extract, almond extract, etc)
Optional Ingredients:
2-4 Tbs corn syrup or glycerin
A few drops of liquid watercolor. Feel free to use my DIY Liquid Watercolor Recipe here or this is where I buy it
ready to use. Amazon also has sells this under the brand “Sax.”
*Peppermint only needed a few drops because the scent was so strong already.
First of all, I used Softsoap because it is a product that I can use in my in-home preschool which licensing approves of. Some soaps say “keep out of the reach of children,” but my particular type of Softsoap does not. Softsoap is also clear and only lightly scented, so the fragrance is easier to cover up. If you use another type of soap or washing up soap, this recipe likely will give different results. Other soaps have a stronger scent and might be tinted, and it will probably change the proportion of soap needed. So if that’s the case, you’ll have to adjust the recipe.

Mix the water and soap first. Now add the flavoring. Remember that really pungent scents only need a couple of drops. The cocoa powder required the most. Test it out to make sure it’s as bubbly as you like. You may have to dip the bubble wand a few times before the bubbles start working. If you want more bubbly goodness, just add more soap. Now add the corn syrup or glycerin. This makes the bubbles stronger and stickier. I’ve made the recipe with it and without it. At the rate that we go through this solution, I don’t make it too fancy.
If you want your deliciously scented bubble solution to be colored, which is oh so fun, go ahead and put some liquid watercolor in. Here are the before and afters of the liquid watercolor process. And in case you are wondering, I do not recommend food coloring since it stains.
Keep in mind that depending on your scent, the shelf life will vary. The cocoa powder one gets yucky the quickest, but the peppermint sustains really well. It’s pretty easy to use it up super quickly here, so we don’t have much of an issue.
I hope you all love this as much as we did! Now you can go enjoy some yummy scented ice cream bubbles.
