I recently discovered something I’ve wanted for years: quiet blocks! Children love blocks, and they are perfect for helping children practice science, math, art, technology, and engineering. I’ve had blocks in all of my classrooms and also for my own children, and the only thing I’ve ever wished about them was that they could be quietly tumble over and lightly fall. If you have ever had a unit block fall on you, you know just what I’m talking about.

I am excited to partner with KORXX for this post. We were so thrilled to test out their cork building blocks to share with you as they were already on our wishlist! Today I’m sharing these beautiful natural colored blocks, but in December I’ll also be showing you their gorgeous rainbow blocks too.

The first day we had the blocks, I was apparently more excited than the children…and I got a little worried. But by the end of the week, they were sleeping with the blocks, smuggling them over to the grandparent’s house in their suitcase, and making tea parties out of them. And since they are made out of natural cork and have no harmful substances, I was pleased to let them play to their heart’s content.

Balancing Activities with Quiet Blocks

Balancing our KORXX blocks became the most popular activity. I left it completely open-ended. To me a perfect toy is an invitation in itself.

The blocks are perfect sized for big hands and even the littlest of hands.

My favorite part about KORXX is when they fall over.

There are no loud crashes. And we all laugh together. No one walks away wincing, needing a hug from a clash with a painful block.

These toys are soft and lightweight, gentle yet wonderful.

KORXX is a European company, but the bricks are available in the U.S. and Canada through Oh-Toys. These specific bricks are called Cuboid. And in case you are wondering, these are all-natural and sustainable building blocks made from natural cork harvested without harming the trees.

My skeptical husband researched this and found out that a cork tree can be harvested every nine years, and the cork regrows on the tree. It’s hard to impress him!
