“The true object of all human life is play. Earth is a task garden; heaven is a playground.” G. K. Chesterton
This week I am joining up with a blog hop called “Just Playing?” I encourage you to visit a couple (or even all) of the links below by some incredible bloggers who understand the power of play in children. We are all examining the importance of “just playing” and asking you to contribute to this with your thoughts. You can engage by answering any of these questions:
What do you see?
What are the children doing?
What learning is taking place?
What skills are being practiced/developed?
I am going to share a moment where I caught Lil’ Red dropping lacing beads into the hood of my jacket.
He loved just dropping them all in, then picking them back out, over and over again.
To some he might have been “just playing,” but there is a lot going on behind the scenes in his thought processes and methods.
So now it’s your turn. I would love to hear your own insights about this lacing bead drop!
We may be “just playing”, but….
What are the children doing here?
What do you see?
What learning is taking place?
What skills are being practiced/developed?
This post is part of the “Just Playing?” Blog Hop!
Thank you for remembering that young children do not “just play.” Young children play. They develop through play. They learn through play. They experiment through play. They grow through play. A child’s work is play. Play is important!
Please take a moment to reflect upon the photos and questions above. I would love for you to share your observations in a comment. I’d also like to invite you to “hop” on over to all of the other bloggers who are sharing photos of children learning through play this week:
